This tribute to The Bash Brothers from The Mighty Ducks is nostalgic gold

Paul Moore

The original iconic duo. Quack, quack, quack…

In terms of goosebump-inducing moments in cinematic history, it’s arguable that nothing will ever top Dean Portman’s inexplicable arrival at half time to rejoin The Mighty Ducks during the third film.

After getting beaten up and physically intimidated by the Eden Hall Varsity team, the Ducks were on their last legs and in desperate need of hope.

Cue Dean Portman’s (Aaron Lohr) arrival and after refusing the school’s scholarship, he’s now welcomed back with open arms.

No further explanation is needed.

Why does he instantly get a spot on the team? Why doesn’t the referee deem his inclusion to be illegal, given the fact he’s not registered for the game? Why didn’t any other players from the Ducks give out to their coach? After Portman stripped in the penalty box and threw all his gear into the crowd, how the hell did he get all his gear back?

Semantics, eh?

What we do know is that Portman absolutely destroyed Cole with one of the greatest hip checks of all time.

Lo and behold, that even makes itself into this brilliant montage which features the best moments of Fulton Reed (Elden Henson) and Dean Portman.

Slap shots, laying the smackdown on people, dominating matches through sheer brute force, making fools kiss the ice, inspiring the greatest comebacks of all time.

Name a more iconic duo, we’ll wait.

Take a look at their finest moments below.
