There’s a storm brewing.

The best thing about the Super Bowl from a movie lovers perspective is that it means a load of new trailers drop all at once.

We got some brand new trailers for the likes of Deadpool 3 and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and one for a rather unexpected sequel – Twisters.

The aptly-named follow up to the 1996 disaster movie starring Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt and Philip Seymour Hoffman dropped a pretty exciting first-look trailer, and it boasts an impressive cast.

Trailer lands for unexpected sequel to classic 90s blockbuster

Twisters stars a whopping cast including Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney, Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani and Irish actor Daryl McCormack.

The sequel is labelled as an “update” to the 90’s flick and is directed by Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung, known for his film Minari.

The trailer shows a group of storm chasers, headed up by the self-titled ‘tornado wrangler’ Powell and scientist Edgar-Jones.

There’s tons of action in the clip, with houses getting torn up, towns getting destroyed and tornados pretty much levelling everything in their wake. There’s not much clue as to the plot, but who needs a plot in a movie like this, let’s be honest.

Powell recently told Vogue that the upcoming film is “definitely not a reboot” and that they’re not trying to recreate the original.

“It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern day.”

He continued, “I don’t think anyone has brought up this movie in forever, but talking to people, they’re like, ‘That was one of my favorite movies growing up. That movie terrified me.'”

Twisters hits cinemas in July, and it has “Summer Blockbuster” written all over it.
