Netflix’s latest true crime series is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation

The intense limited series is at the centre of one of the most talked-about topics in modern crime.

We all know that Netflix have had a fantastic run of true-crime series lately - everything from Mindhunter to Making A Murderer are based on fact - but their latest series is truly planting itself in the middle of one of the most talked-about issues in crime today. Unbelievable tells the true story of Marie (Kaitlyn Dever - Booksmart, Short Term 12), a teenager who was charged with lying about having been raped, and the two female detectives who followed a twisting path to arrive at the truth. The two detectives are played by Oscar-nominee Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Hereditary) and two-time Emmy winner Merritt Wever (The Walking Dead, Nurse Jackie), while the show was co-created and directed by Oscar-nominee Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich, Party Of Five), and is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning article which investigated this particular case. As is explained by those involved in front of and behind the camera in the inside look behind the show, Unbelievable will be tackling not just the sexual assault case, but the aftermath from that case, which included the victim being interrogated by the people whose job it is to protect her and bring the true criminals to justice.
