Apple TV has just released the first proper teaser for Neuromancer, its TV series adaptation of the legendary sci-fi novel by William Gibson.
This is alongside his partner Molly (Briana Middleton, Sharper), "a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes aiming to pull a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets".
The new 30-second teaser for Neuromancer is not a conventional trailer. It does not spotlight any scenes, characters, or plot.
The teaser does, however, give an impression of the highly anticipated series' mood.
In the clip, the novel's iconic first line - "The sky above the port was the colour of television, tuned to a dead channel" - is displayed on the screen of a retrofuturistic machine.
Published in 1984, Neuromancer was Gibson's debut novel. It launched a trilogy, which also includes the books Count Zero (1986) and Mona Lisa Overdrive (1988).
While released without much fanfare, Neuromancer quickly became a word-of-mouth hit and is now considered one of the earliest and best-known works in the cyberpunk genre.
It has been cited as a major influence on the movie The Matrix and as having popularised certain terms such as "cyberspace".
Before Apple TV announced that it was making the 10-part show back in February 2024, a movie adaptation of Neuromancer had been in the works since the '80s.
It never came to fruition, however, leading many to dub the novel "unfilmable".
JOE recently spoke to Irons about his role in Young Sherlock, Prime Video's very fun action-adventure series.
When we asked him about the upcoming screen version of Neuromancer, the Young Sherlock star said: "I can't say a huge amount, but I can tell you it's gonna be great.
"It's going to be really something special. It's got a real, real respect for the source material.
"You've really got something to look forward to there."
Irons' Young Sherlock co-star Zine Tseng then asked if he would have a moustache in Neuromancer, like his Young Sherlock character.
In response, he teased: "No, but there's a lot, a lot of fake tan, so you get that."
The book and upcoming show follow a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case (Callum Turner - The Capture, Eternity), who finds himself thrust into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime.

Created by Graham Roland (Dark Winds) and JD Dillard (Devotion), Neuromancer's cast also includes Clémence Poésy (Tenet), Dane DeHaan (Lawless), Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple), Joseph Lee (Beef), Mark Strong (The Penguin), Peter Sarsgaard (September 5), as well as English-Irish actor Max Irons.
