Netflix has finally put a release date on its new take on John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, with the seven-part series arriving on 1 October.
The full series will be released worldwide on the same day, meaning viewers in Ireland will not have to wait any longer than audiences elsewhere.
Florence Pugh will take on the central role of Cathy Ames, one of the novel’s most complicated and controversial characters, while Irish actor Ciarán Hinds appears as Samuel Hamilton.
The adaptation comes from Zoe Kazan, who has written and executive produced all seven episodes and serves as co-showrunner.
Rather than focusing on just one part of Steinbeck’s 1952 novel, the series will follow the Trask and Hamilton families across several generations as their lives become increasingly intertwined.
The series has also assembled a sizeable cast around Pugh and Hinds, with Christopher Abbott playing Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask and Joe Anders taking on the role of Aron Trask. Hoon Lee will play Lee, while Tracy Letts and Martha Plimpton also feature in the adaptation.
Younger versions of Cal and Aron will be portrayed by Jonah Wren Phillips and Bodhi Aisher.
The seven-part drama is another major literary adaptation for Netflix, which has continued to build up its line-up of high-profile dramas and true-crime productions.
All seven episodes of East of Eden will be available to stream on Netflix from 1 October 2026.

However, Cathy is very much at the heart of this version. Netflix has described the series as a modern interpretation of the novel that puts renewed attention on its “indelible antihero”, while Kazan has previously said that finding the right actress for Cathy was arguably the most important casting decision of the entire project and Pugh was ultimately the actress who was right for the part.
