Urgent warning issued to Netflix users over scam that can hack accounts

The scam comes in the form of an email pretending to be the streaming service.

The scam email claims to be Netflix and looks legitimate and claims that payment details are needed.

The email also claims that the account will be suspended until payment is made.

It features a link that users can click on which then asks for account username, password, address and card details.

Like all phishing scams it creates a sense of urgency and tries to put the target under pressure.

The main things to look out for is the email's subject line which is "Let’s tackle your payment details."

It then says it will attempt to take the payment again before adding "but in the meantime you want to update your payment details."

Another key indicator is that the email is from an iCloud domain, instead Netflix.com.

Netflix offer advice for anyone that is unsure as to whether or not the streaming giant is actually trying to contact them.

On their website they said: "If you get an email or text message (SMS) asking for your Netflix account email, phone, password, or payment method it probably didn't come from Netflix."

Speaking to the MailOnline Jake Moore, Global Cybersecurity Advisor at ESET said: "It is always important to research into any emails requesting personal or sensitive information and it’s advisable to avoid downloading any attachments.

"Whilst it’s best to avoid entering any details into a link sent by an email address, it can be reassuring to log into your account via the genuine app to see which communications are genuine."
