Video: Fake chef dupes five different US TV shows into believing and eating his hilariously gross recipes

A mashed potato ice-cream cone with gravy topping? Sure, that sounds believable.

A mashed potato ice-cream cone with gravy topping? Sure, that sounds believable.

There are so many cookery shows and cookery segments on other shows that you don’t have to go far to find an exotic-looking meal on television that you might never have set eyes on or have heard of before.

That said, we still can’t believe that a man posing as a fake chef managed to appear on five different morning shows in the US over the Christmas period and convince them not only to believe his completely fabricated recipes – made entirely of leftovers – but to eat them as well.

According to Deadspin, a fake chef by the name of Chef Keith Guerke – the brainchild of the creators of the Found Footage Festival, Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher – appeared on five morning shows in Wisconsin and Illinois to promote a cookbook (that doesn’t exist) based on meals made out of leftovers.

As well as convincing the hosts of the shows that the meals were real and getting them to actually eat them, Guerke (played by Prueher) comes out with some ridiculous lines without being challenged, such as “the average person eats a pound and a half of faeces each year”.

It just goes to show that if you’re convincing enough and the person listening is gullible enough, then some people really will believe anything.
