Video: The best scene from The Blues Brothers is now in Lego form… and it’s class

“We’re on a mission from God... to recreate The Blues Brothers in Lego form.”

Eoghan Doherty

“We’re on a mission from God… to recreate The Blues Brothers in Lego form” is obviously what was said at the most recent brainstorming meeting at Bricktease.

The very talented folk at the ingeniously-named Bricktease are master Lego manipulaters and have brilliantly recreated the car-chase-through-a-shopping-mall scene from the 1980 comedy classic, The Blues Brothers. The John Landis film stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as “Joliet” Jake and Elwood Blues, the titular Blues Brothers on a “a mission from God” to reunite their old Blues band in order to save the orphanage they grew up in from foreclosure.

The frame by frame stop motion recreation is, in this JOE’s humble opinion, a certifiable work of art, made all the more impressive by synching the visuals up exactly with the film’s hilariously dry original audio.

Most importantly though, the clip serves to remind us just how class the film actually is, so JOE’s already dusting down our cherished DVD copy for our own personal viewing pleasure, as well unboxing our childhood Lego collection. It’s going to be one amazing weekend.

And so, on with the show, “it’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark… and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it.”

And here’s the side by side or, as the Bricktease builders describe it, top by top comparision of the original and the recreated scene:
