Rap fans won’t want to miss VS., a new battle rap movie added to Netflix

Rudi Kinsella

Vs Netflix

If you like 8 Mile, you’ll really enjoy this.

When watching VS., a movie recently uploaded to Netflix, it’s impossible to ignore the comparisons to the classic film 8 Mile.

And although the Slim Shady film obviously received far greater critical and commercial success, with Eminem winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song for ‘Lose Yourself’, there are definitely plenty of similarities between both films.

But instead of Detroit, Michigan, VS. is set in Southend, England, and follows a troubled young man with a bad temper, as he attempts to use the medium of rap, more specifically battle rap, to steer his life in a more positive path.

The lead character, Adam (played by Conor Swindells, who you may recognise from Netflix sensation Sex Education), has to come to terms with the fact that his mother now wants to be a part of his life, years after abandoning him.

And if somehow you’re still failing to see the similarities to 8 Mile, the main character doesn’t even look all that different from Eminem…

The dramatic scenes that portray the relationship, or lack thereof, that he has with his mother can be a bit of a tough watch at times, but the entertaining battle rap scenes make up for it.

VS. is available to watch on Netflix now, and if you’re a fan of rap music, we recommend you give it a watch.
