WATCH: Brendan Gleeson reveals his new tattoo and chats about making Batman AKA Ben Affleck feel nervous

Eoghan Doherty

The man, the legend…

When Oscar-winning director, writer, actor and all-round nice guy, Ben Affleck, was looking for someone to play his father in his latest film, Live By Night (released in Irish cinemas on 13 January), there was only one man for the job; iconic Irish actor, Brendan Gleeson.

Live By Night poster

Live By Night is a Prohibition Era-set tale filled with guns, girls and good men gone bad, with Gleeson delivering a knock-out performance as Thomas Coughlin, the stern father of Affleck’s reluctant gangster, Joe Coughlin.

Having previously chatted to Ben Affleck about his love for Ireland’s national thespian treasure, this time it was Brendan’s turn to talk about what it’s like to make Batman feel nervous, the possibility of returning to the role of Mad-Eye Moody and he also exclusively reveals that he’s getting a tattoo for his next big role in Paddington 2.

Oh, and he also gives us a lesson in how to spell properly. Thanks, Mr Gleeson.

Enjoy…

Check out the official trailer for Live By Night below, which looks like it could be a gangster classic in the making…
