The party is over.

It was early December 2018 when Netflix first announced that there would be a follow-up to Narcos: Mexico, which should have come as a surprise to exactly zero people, considering how popular the spin-off show has proven to be.

The first season charted the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s as Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna) took the helm, unifying traffickers in order to build an empire.

When DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, he quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined.

The first teaser for the follow-up season teases the return of Luna as Gallardo, but things are not looking as good as they might appear. Sure, above the table everyone is all smiles and laughing and having a good time, but a glimpse beneath the surface (SYMBOLISM!) shows that everyone is willing to kill at a moment’s notice, and this time, nobody is untouchable. No, not even Gallardo.

Scott McNairy is also back as Walt Breslin (he narrated the majority of the first season), while Gallardo is forced to deal with the American agencies and the consequences of his actions against the DEA, as well as facing some strong discontent within his own organisation.

Narcos: Mexico Season 2 will be available to stream in full on Netflix from Thursday 13 February, and you can check out the first teaser right here:
