It was one of the most high profile crimes of the last few decades.
Netflix continues to lead the charge on water-cooler TV, this time with their new mini-series When They See Us, the trailer for which was released to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the crime that the series is based around.
As Netflix tells us, the show is based on a true story that gripped the world, and it will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of colour, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit.
Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the show will span 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.
The series stars Michael K. Williams (The Wire), Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), John Leguizamo (Carlito's Way), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Niecy Nash (Scream Queens), Blair Underwood (L.A. Law), Christopher Jackson (Bull), Joshua Jackson (Dawson's Creek), Omar Dorsey (Django Unchained), Adepero Oduye (12 Years A Slave), and Famke Janssen (Taken).
It is also directed and co-written by Ava DuVernay (Selma, 13th), and is co-produced by Robert DeNiro and Oprah Winfrey.
