WATCH: Piers Morgan and Owen Jones had a very heated exchange on Good Morning Britain

Alan Loughnane

Two outspoken figures…

Piers Morgan is never a man to stay away from controversial topics and when tasked with interviewing the similarly strong willed journalist Owen Jones, there was always going to be fireworks between the pair.

Jones is an outspoken critic of Donald Trump and recently organised an anti-Trump rally in London, which he said was to try and put pressure on the government to stand up to Donald Trump.

Morgan is a friend of Donald Trump, and although he recently stated that he doesn’t agree with Trump’s politics, he won’t let that get in the way of his personal relationship with the man.

Speaking to ITV’s Loose Women on Sunday, Morgan said: “The principle of what he is doing is understandable; the way he has gone about it, in my view, is unacceptable. But let’s not just say that every time he speaks he’s a monster, because it’s not true.”

With two men of contrasting views coming together on the Good Morning Britain couch, they were never going to agree on matters.

But Jones was bemused when Morgan continued to speak over him throughout the interview, with Jones saying: “This is a monologue, this isn’t an interview!”

Whereas Morgan argued his point by saying: “Year after year we have rolled out the red carpet. Where were the mass marches? Why didn’t you turn out?”

He was referring to previous state visits from China and Saudi Arabia despite their poor record of human rights in their own home nations.
