WATCH: Pointless had a brilliant moment this week as host Alexander Armstrong was a pointless answer

Alan Loughnane

We love this show…

This may go without saying, but we love a good quiz. Whether it’s one of our Irish general knowledge quizzes, a film quiz, or best of all, watching a quiz show on TV.

We’ve already seen a memorable moment on The Chase where a trainee doctor managed to get a relatively straightforward anatomy question wrong.

Now, on the show Pointless, where you have to give the most obscure answer you can with the aim of the game being to achieve as little points as possible.

Linda was asked to name an artist who featured in the top 40 biggest albums list of 2015. A lot of high profile names spring to mind, but Linda was going for broke and she threw out a name.

The name was that of host of the show, Alexander Armstrong…

She asked was it allowed to name him and in fairness to Armstrong, if he knew it was a correct answer, he played it very cool saying: “I’d be very flattered… but I’d be very surprised.”

The Pointless host last year released a debut album called A Year of Songs which ended up climbing as high as number six in the charts in November that year.

It turns out it was the 32nd highest selling album that year… a fact which seemed to surprise Armstrong himself.

It’s definitely a better answer than this one which destroyed a friendship
