Stone Cold Steve Austin

Give me a hell yeah! Four more documentaries about wrestlers too.

Given that we’re now in the week of Wrestlemania, it’s fitting that five icons of the business are going to be getting the documentary treatment.

After HBO’s wonderful feature on Andre The Giant, we’re delighted to see that A&E and WWE Studios will be making five documentaries about some of the most iconic wrestlers of all time.

The two-hour documentaries will profile “Macho Man” Randy Savage, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Booker T (he’s coming to Ireland soon), Shawn Michaels, and the iconic Stone Cold Steve Austin.

In terms of modern professional wrestling, it’s arguable that nobody did more than the Texas rattlesnake to usher in the Attitude era of the WWF – now known as the WWE.

Right from that iconic moment at the King of The Ring when he said those famous words, the persona of Stone Cold Steve Austin revolutionised wrestling as his feud with Vince McMahon sent wrestling into the stratosphere.

It also made Mr. McMahon a very, very rich man.

In terms of the aesthetic approach of the series, fans will get an in-depth look at the lives of the wrestlers through new and archival interviews and never-before-seen footage.

Billy Corben will direct the documentary on Randy Savage while Joe Lavine will be the man responsible for telling the story of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

Variety have reported that three of the documentaries are currently in pre-production and they’re set to air in spring 2020. The Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels features will air in 2021.

In the great man’s immortal words “and that’s the bottom line because Stone Cold said so!”
