Zach Braff is returning to television with a new comedy series

Conor Heneghan

Great news for fans of Scrubs.

Zach Braff is set to make a return to television as the star and executive producer of a new comedy series titled Start Up.

According to Deadline, Braff, who played John ‘JD’ Dorian in Scrubs for the best part of a decade, will play the lead role in a series based on a podcast of the same name by Alex Blumberg.

Braff will play a man in his mid-30s with a wife and two kids who quits his job to start a new business.

A pilot of the show, which will be directed by Braff, has already been committed to by ABC, but the name of the series is likely to change because it clashes with a new series on Crackle, Sony’s streaming service, starring Martin Freeman and Adam Brody.

In news which will further excite Scrubs fans, the series will be written by Matt Tarses, who was a co-executive producer on the wildly popular hospital comedy.

If, between the two of them, they can come up with more gold like this, then it’ll definitely be worth a look…
