David Bowie named as greatest entertainer of the 20th century

Rudi Kinsella

David Bowie

Quite an achievement.

The British public made the decision as part of a poll for the BBC’s Icons TV show, which focused on some of the most prominent names of that time period.

Bowie, who passed away in 2016, was named ahead of artists like Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin to win the award.

The purpose of the TV series is to select “the greatest person of the 20th century”, through a voting process.

There are a number of winners to be chosen from the categories in the Icons series, the categories being:

  • Leaders
  • Explorers
  • Scientists
  • Entertainers
  • Activists
  • Sports Stars
  • Artists & Writers

Those people in the running for “the greatest person of the 20th century” award include Nelson Mandela and Ernest Shackleton.

The series continues on BBC Two on Monday night, where they will look at the greatest sports person of the 20th century.

We reckon that if it’s not Paul McGrath then it’s a fix.
