The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac to team up for festival appearances later this year

Conor Heneghan

Try to take it easy classic rock fans, these aren’t just rumours.

That’s right, according to Billboard, two of the biggest bands in history, The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, will be appearing on the same line-up for two festivals in the US this summer.

The festivals, titled Classic East and Classic West, have been slated to take place in Citi Field in New York and Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles in July, with organisers hoping to make the festivals an annual event.

Billboard reports that each festival will take place over two days at each venue and that a number of big-name acts will be announced to support the rock legends over the coming months.

The festivals will mark the first live appearance by The Eagles since the death of founding member Glenn Frey in January 2016, apart from a tribute at the 2016 Grammy Awards a month after his death. Who will fill in for Frey is as yet unclear.

Stevie Nicks, meanwhile, will have to take time out from her 24 Karat Gold Tour to perform on the east and west coasts of the US; the festivals are the only live dates announced by Fleetwood Mac in 2017.

Appearances at Classic East and Classic West would seem to mark the only opportunity to check out two giants of the classic rock scene on the same bill; if that’s what you’re into and you happen to be Stateside in July, it will be well worth checking out.
