“Here we are in the County Clare. It’s a long, long way from here to there…”

Good news for Irish music fans as a string of extra shows have been added to Christy Moore’s run of intimate live gigs in Vicar Street later this year.

Aiken Promotions announced the news on Monday morning, stating that due to phenomenal demand, four extra shows have been scheduled for the Kildare man’s run.

These gigs are set to go ahead on 8, 9, 14, 15 of January. These are additional dates following his run of December and early January shows.

Tickets – priced between €40 and €50 – go on sale Friday at 9am. They can be purchased online on Ticketmaster as well as all other usual outlets.

The lyricist and songwriter – who was named as Ireland’s greatest living musician in RTÉ’s People of the Year Awards – returns to the venue he has played over 200 times with a new album to give people a taste of nostalgia in the run-up to Christmas.

The new piece, entitled On The Road, is a collection of his most popular songs which span over several decades of entertaining. Moore has spent two years compiling the album, which contains 24 songs recorded at 17 venue – including three tracks from Vicar Street.

His name hit headlines earlier in the year when he powerfully explained why he supported a Yes vote in the Eighth Amendment.
