Gone too soon, JOE remembers Phil Lynott…

On this day 65 years ago, a mother in Birmingham gave birth to her first son, a young boy who would then move to Dublin to live with his grandmother. As he grew up, his uncle’s record collection would start a musical fire in him that would burn inside him for the rest of his life.

That boy was Phil Lynott, who went on to become not only one of Ireland’s biggest rock stars, but part of one of the most influential band of modern times. Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Alice In Chains have all been touched by Thin Lizzy’s influence and, along with a whole slew of celebrity fans, there is no denying the band’s far-reaching appeal.

And so, on what would his been 65th birthday, we pick some of our favourite ever images of the great man. Happy birthday Phil, we miss you…
