Garbage announce first Irish headline gig since 1999

Garbage Dublin gig

About damn time.

Enduring Scottish rockers Garbage were one of the highlights of this year’s Electric Picnic festival.

That was in spite of heavy rain greeting their Main Stage appointment (kind of appropriate, all things considered) and having to cut their set slightly short due to technical issues (less romantic, admittedly).

At one point, frontwoman Shirley Manson expressed her delight at being back on Irish soil, noting that Garbage’s last proper encounter with the Emerald Isle somehow came almost 20 years previous and they simply hadn’t been asked back since.

Those last dates were in January of 1999 at the Point Theatre in Dublin and King’s Hall in Belfast as part of the Version 2.0 tour.

Finally, someone out there has seen sense and Garbage are returning with a 2019 headline date in the capital.

Manson and company will take to the stage at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens on Thursday 18 July 2019, giving them a nice break from the studio where they’ll be recording their seventh album during the first half of the year.

Tickets priced €45 go on sale this Wednesday 19 December at 9am via Ticketmaster and usual outlets nationwide.

Hopefully it only rains during that one song.
