In the final of our interviews with the three Red Bull Bedroom Jam finalists, JOE sat down to chat with Cobh natives Aces Wild

The lads from Aces Wild have had a pretty hectic few weeks since joining in the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, so they sat down with JOE to chat about the whole experience, the upcoming final in Whelans on Thursday the 29th of August and even played a quick tune, which you can listen to above or on our Soundcloud.

JOE: Congrats on making the final, you must be pretty excited about it?

Aces Wild: Yeah we entered back in April or May, some time around then. It was actually my dad who told us to get in on on the competition, we nearly missed the closing date actually, just about made it!

JOE: Has it been everything you expected?

AW: Definitely, even more than we’d hoped for. It’s been so fantastic for getting publicity and getting the music out there. We’ve been on local radio down here like Red FM and stuff since we started out, it’s just been brilliant. The social media aspect has also pushed us on to another level.

JOE: That has been huge for yourselves, the social media side of things?

AW: Yeah, it’s essential I’d say for bands these days, you won’t get too far without using Facebook or Twitter. We also use Soundcloud a lot, it’s fantastic to be able to throw up a song that your fans can just download for free up there, it’s a great way to connect with them.

JOE: You’ve played a few festivals with the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, you guys were at Glasgowbury recently we believe…

AW: Yeah that was fantastic, it was during the good weather and the scenery is fantastic there. Our set went really well too so that was a bonus!

JOE: Touchwood and Corner Boy are the other two finalists, you got the chance to see them at Indiependence, what was that like?

AW: They were great, they’re really tight and put on a great show. It was nice to have a chat with them and see how they were getting on too.

JOE:And no “unfortunate accidents” for either band before the final when you met up with them there?

AW: Not yet anyway!

JOE: The final is at Whelans, it’s a pretty iconic venue, are you looking forward to it?

AW: Yeah it’s a great venue, we’re really buzzing for it. We’re huge Arctic Monkeys fans and they played one of their early gigs at Whelans which is great too.

JOE: Are they one of your biggest influences?

AW: Definitely, the lyrics were the biggest thing that grabbed me with their debut album, just talking about stuff that people would get up to every day or on the weekend or whatever, I never thought you could make a song out of that.

JOE: Any plans for after the Bedroom Jam final?

AW: We’re getting put up in a hotel either way which is great! Whether we’ll be drowning our sorrows or not that’s a different story… We’re headed to Electric Picnic anyway for the weekend after, so that will be fantastic, first time there!

JOE: Any advice for up and coming young bands like yourselves?

AW: Definitely consider the Bedroom Jam, it’s done wonders for us we have to say. Apart from that, get a good few songs under your belt, and keep working on the musical side. When you think you’re ready enter something like this, it really helps. And don’t neglect the social media sites!

JOE: What’s next for the band after the final?

AW: We’d love to get a few gigs in Dublin, get a bit more radio play and get our name out there a bit more. We’re going to keep doing demos and hopefully put an album together at some stage and get it out there. We’ll take it as it comes!
