JOE’s New Song of the Day #279

Eoghan Doherty

Meet Wake America…

Remember Eoin O’Callaghan?

Of course you do.

The talented Derry native has previously featured as JOE’s New Song Of The Day under the name of Best Boy Grip. You can check out his super singles ‘Shark’ by clicking here and ‘Can’t Buy Love, Son’ by clicking here.

This time around though, Eoin is back by popular demand as Wake America, a band who, in its short life, has already won the hearts of music critics and clocked up plays on BBC 6Music, as well as performing on multiple BBC Radio LIVE Sessions.

Wake America’s debut single ’Silly Boy’ was recently featured on Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable along side Primal Scream and Iggy Pop and the single will be released on Limited Edition 7” Vinyl on 4 March via AmeliaRecords.com (iTune/Spotify too), with a full-length album coming later in the year.

Get ready, here come some fancy quotes…

“Yeah, you know what… this is going to do very, very well!” – BBC 6Music, Steve Lamacq

“Full of dirty riffs and subtle electronic embellishments, a stunning way to end!” – Whelan’s Ones To Watch Fest

“I love Silly Boy…catchier than a chipped fingernail on knit-ware” – BBC 6Music, Tom Robinson’s FOTN

“I’m just blown away by this. There’s a primal badness in this record…A joyously unhinged slab of synth-driven punk rock, with Pixies-esque basslines and vocal harmonies being the icing on the cake” – BBC Ulster

“Impossibly infectious… One listen and you’ll be hooked.’” – The Thin Air, Magazine

So have a listen and then you can say you heard it here first… but after all those people we just quoted above, of course.

Get ready to sing this all day…
