JOE’s Sunday Sessions’ Live Band Profile: David Keenan

Everyone's keen on David

Carl Kinsella

David Keenan’s star is on the rise.

Name: David Keenan
Active since: 2015
Hometown: Dundalk

The Dundalk man came to the nation’s attention earlier this year when a video of him performing his song El Paso in a taxi went viral.

Since then, David Keenan has won himself a fanbase not just in his home country, but in Texas where his song El Paso, actually about Dundalk, has prompted a music-blogger to get in touch with him and try to organise some gigs in the Lone Star State.

On July 9 he’ll be playing his second Sunday Sessions Live gig in Whelan’s. Keenan has  performed previously at JOE’s Sunday Sessions in The Workman’s.

Keenan has had a year to remember so far, having been invited onstage by The Frames to play his song Matchbox in front of a hometown crowd.

His success is undoubtedly well-deserved. Keenan boasts a strong voice and an incredible ear for melody, reminiscent of Paddy Casey with a soaring voice. Accompanied by sentimental lyrics and the strum of his guitar, each of his songs are hard to forget.
