Kanye West no longer goes by the name Kanye West

Rory Cashin

Remember when Prince changed his name to a symbol? Yep, history is repeating itself…

In the grand tradition of Sean Combs aka Puffy Daddy aka P. Diddy aka Puffy aka Diddy aka Brother Love aka B. Love (yes, he’s been known by all of those names over the years), a rapper has decided to render all of his previous merchandise completely null and void by changing his name.

Kanye West wants you all to call him… Ye.

He took to Twitter… on which he still called @KanyeWest… to tell his followers:

Super.

For those who don’t remember, Kanye We- sorry, Ye’s most recent solo album, was released on 1 June this year, and it was titled Ye.

Quite why he would name himself after his worst-reviewed album to date isn’t clear, but he is set to drop his new album Yandhi directly after his performance on Saturday Night Live.

The album, which should be readily available to all Spotify users first thing Sunday morning, is said to be a follow up to his hit 2013 album Yeezus.

Very little is known about it, with rumours of big names and big producers, but do you get the title wordplay? Yeezus… Yandhi…. Brilliant. What’s next? Mother Yeeresa? Saint Yeetrick? The Dalai Yeema?

Either way, the new album will be a big talking point, and just a few days after one of the biggest rappers dropped their long-awaited return? This is a pretty big weekend for hip-hops fans!
