JOE’s Song Of The Day #841 – Kitt Philippa ‘Fahrenheit’

Dave Hanratty

Kitt Philippa Song Of The Day

Haunting and intense from a star on the rise.

Next week sees the launch of Ireland Music Week; the rebranded Hard Working Class Heroes showcase that positions 50 of the country’s top acts across a series of gigs, among other such encounters.

Part of the fun is that you get to bounce from one Dublin-based venue to another as a mini-festival takes over the city centre, trying to catch as many acts as possible in a short timeframe.

As such, the artists you do hit up better do a good job of holding your attention. And so it was that last year, this writer stumbled upon Kitt Philippa‘s set at the Grand Social and didn’t look back.

Formerly of the acclaimed Ulster Orchestra, Philippa specialises in making tiny personal details sound huge, which is very much the order of the day on new track ‘Fahrenheit’, the final single to be taken from upcoming debut album Human, which arrives next month.

“There’s a heaviness in the lyrics, and an intensity to their delivery,” Philippa says.

“The cross-section of the track probably reveals difficulty interacting with self and others, at times. Looking at thermometers to understand how something feels is relatively simple; I interchanged the language to maybe try to view things in an easier way.”

Check the track out below, and catch Philippa headlining The Sugar Club in Dublin on 26 November.
