Lovely touch from the Killarney Festival as they announce The Tony Fenton Stage

A lovely tribute

Paul Moore

A lovely tribute.

While it’s impossible to replace the incredibly gifted and much missed DJ Tony Fenton, the Killarney Festival of Music & Food are preserving his legacy in the best possible way.

The organisers have just announced that ‘The Tony Fenton Stage’ will play host to some of the bands and artists that the talented DJ loved and championed on the airwaves.

Father John Misty, Something Happens, Walking on Cars, Kormac’s Big Band, Mundy and Booka Brass Band are just some of the names announced to be playing but arguably the most poignant and fitting appearance will be from The Undertones, featuring Fenton’s Today FM Today FM colleague and friend Paul McLoone of course.

Unknown to some, Fenton was instrumental in promoting the festival over the last four years, he worked behind the scenes suggesting bands to include on the billing while also providing the voice-over work for their radio and TV adverts.

Speaking about this honour, Fenton’s friend Paul McLoone said “it’s very fitting that a stage bear his name, not only as a reflection of his close connection to the festival, and a mark of the great esteem in which he was held, but also as a reminder of what a great supporter of Irish music he was.

“I’ll be proud and honoured to lead The Undertones onto the Tony Fenton Stage at this year’s Killarney Festival, knowing that somehow, somewhere the great man will be giving it the Nod Of Respect.”

If you need a reminder of Fenton’s wonderful ear for music then take a look here while this tribute from the Killarney Festival certainly ranks alongside some of the lovely words that were said about the talented DJ and lovely man here.
