PHOTOS: Ryan Sheridan’s Tour of China – Day 4

Joe Harrington

This looks like a hell of an adventure.

Ryan Sheridan will play our Sunday Sessions Live 2 gig at Whelan’s on October 22 (free tickets here). The Monaghan man is currently on tour in China and he’s going to give us a tour diary during the trip.

“Today we started our morning by being greeted by Alex and Brian from Mayson Guitars at our hotel lobby to be brought to the factory where they make Mayson and Martinez guitars.”

“Getting there was an experience though. Typhoon Mujigae was still in full flight and the rain was ridiculous. The road was a flowing river. “

“It feels like we are in a tropical rainforest, although I’m pretty sure rainforests surround this city and area of China.”

“Walking into the factory all we could see was an endless sea of guitars. All the way from being a fully finished guitar, to just a piece of wood in a warehouse.”

“Such an incredible thing to see guitars being put together and built by hand right before your eyes as the deafening noise of rain on the roof of the factory swarms the room.”

“Although we could still hear one of my songs playing from one of the workers phones as he worked. It was quite amazing actually.

“You could see and feel how much passion they put into making such amazing guitars.”

“One thing I’ve noticed about the Chinese culture though, they never waste a second! They make the most of their days. We have not rested once since coming here.”

“There is always something to see or more food to be eaten. It’s not just time they like to make the most of. You’ve already heard how they make the most of their food by eating every bit of the animal. A webbed duck foot can make you feel unsettled at times.”

“Tomorrow we are playing a concert for the workers of the Mayson factory and we also plan to play in a public park in Guangzhou. Time to see what busking in China feels like, can’t wait!”
