Ireland has lost a great DJ and an even better man.
People across Ireland are still coming to terms with the news that DJ Tony Fenton will no longer be with us after passing away this afternoon aged 53 following a long battle with prostate cancer.
The likeable DJ made his name on RTÉ 2fm, where he spent 18 years, before moving to Today FM back in 2004.
Like many of you, this writer spent the entire afternoon listening to some of Fenton’s favourite songs being played on the airwaves by his colleagues and it was emotional to say the least.
Just like fans of the broadcaster, Fenton’s personal tastes spoke to mine and I found myself being incredibly moved by some of the touching tributes that were being said in his honour.
We think that his own personal selection of songs, given before an interview with Tom Dunne in 2013, is a timely reminder of his superb knowledge of music and passion for broadcasting.
RIP Tony Fenton.
