Ireland might be the successful country in the history of the Eurovision, but we won't even have a contestant in the final this weekend after Nicky Byrne failed to qualify for the final.
Ten of the 18 countries that performed at Thursday night's second semi-final made it through to Saturday's Grand Final, but despite an accomplished performance, Nicky was, alas, not one of them.
Question marks surrounded the progression of some of the other countries (Australia in particular and not just because it isn't even in Europe anyway) and people were not slow to express their outrage, genuine or otherwise on social media.
