Radiohead say they’re going to ‘get together’ in early 2023

Radiohead’s last studio album came in 2016

Radiohead will “get together” early this year, drummer Phil Selway has revealed.

One of the greatest bands in British music, Radiohead’s last studio album came in 2016 when they released the critically-acclaimed ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’.

This was followed by a tour in 2018, before they released the triple album ‘KID A MNESIA’ in 2021 to celebrate their groundbreaking ‘Kid A’ and ‘Amnesiac’ records, along with a third disc of rarities and B-sides called ‘Kid Amnesiae’.

But this year marks two decades since the band released their sixth studio album ‘Hail to the Thief’, and Selway spoke to Spin about their plans for the new year and whether they had anything lined up to celebrate the anniversary.

“We’ve been very focused on the whole ‘Kid A’/’Amnesiac’ thing, and I think that’s coming to its natural conclusion, going back through the reissue and [creating] the game scenario around that,” he said.

“We’re going to get together at the start of [2023], and I’m sure we’re going to start looking at other ideas for what comes next. ‘Hail To The Thief’ — it’s a long time since that record, isn’t it?”

Last summer, Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien also discussed the future for the band and the possibility of new music.

He told The Line-Up Podcast: “It might happen, but the other thing is… it might not. And does that matter?

“There’s no Radiohead at the moment. There’s a truth to what we do, so we’re not going to be one of those bands that gets together for the big payday.”

O’Brien continued: “The thing with Radiohead, we could do something in a couple years. We might not. But I think what it has to be, it has to be five people going, ‘I really want to do this again with you.’ And I think at the moment, because we’ve done it for so long, we’re all reaching out and having different experiences. And that should be allowed, and that should be encouraged.”

Since the release of Radiohead’s last record, frontman Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have formed their own band called The Smile, alongside Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner.

They released their debut album in summer 2022 and spent last year touring.

Radiohead are one of the most successful British acts of all time, and are widely considered one of the greatest bands ever.

Their 1997 album ‘OK Computer’ is often touted as one of the best albums ever created, and four of their albums (In Rainbows, The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A) featured in Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

In 2019, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
