The singer-songwriter made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.

Grammy award-winning musician and composer Randy Newman has cancelled his upcoming European tour, including two Irish dates, due to an injury.

Newman was set to perform shows in Dublin’s Vicar Street on 9 and 10 March, both of which have now been cancelled.

The 74-year-old announced earlier today that the tour cancellation is due to a ‘severe knee condition’ for which he has to undergo surgery.

Promoters issued a statement regarding the gigs on Wednesday morning that read:

“Randy Newman today announced that he has had to cancel his forthcoming European Tour due to a severe knee condition for which he has to undergo surgery for.

“The European tour included two dates at Vicar Street on 9 & 10 March which are now cancelled.”

“I feel terrible about having to cancel these dates,” Newman said in a statement.

Newman continued, “I was looking forward to playing. I apologise for whatever inconvenience I might have caused.”

Tickets for both shows can be refunded from their point of purchase.
