RTE Phil Lynott Thin Lizzy documentary

Fans will not want to miss this.

Aside from a plethora of great films and shows on TV this Christmas, we’re also being treated to documentaries about Billy Connolly, Bruce Springsteen, Jason Sherlock and more.

If you’re curious about those features, you can read about them here in JOE’s Christmas and New Year’s TV guide but for fans of Thin Lizzy, one feature stands head and shoulders above the rest.

On Phil Lynott: Scéalta Ón Old Town, viewers will get an in-depth look at the making and recording of Lynott’s beloved track, Old Town.

Filmed in 1982, the video features the singer strutting his stuff around some of Dublin’s most iconic landmarks like the Ha’Penny Bridge, flirting up a storm on Grafton Street, or sitting in the Long Hall pub.

This documentary tells the story around the recording of that video and and features contributions from the likes of Lynott’s mother, Philomena, Thin Lizzy band member, Eric Bell, and Brush Shiels from Lynott’s first band, Skid Row.

Aside from this, footage from RTÉ’s archives is also used extensively as we get a full picture of the iconic singer doing what he does best, entertaining.

Phil Lynott – Scéalta Ón Old Town airs at 19:30 on RTÉ One tonight – Sunday 30 December.
