Sinéad O’Connor shared heartbreaking social media post days before her death

"He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul."

One of Sinead O’Connor’s final social media posts before her death was about the heartbreaking loss of her son, Shane. The family of the legendary Irish singer and musician announced her passing on Wednesday (26 July). She was 56 years old. In a statement to RTÉ, her family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead. “Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.” In the days before her passing, O'Connor took to Twitter to write about her son Shane's death at the age of 17 in January 2022. The ‘Nothing Compares 2 U' singer said:

“Been living as undead night creature since. He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. "We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. "I am lost in the bardo without him."

The singer was born Sinéad Marie Bernadette O’Connor in Dublin on 8 December 1966. She rose to fame in the late '80s with her beloved debut album The Lion and the Cobra. She went on to achieve international acclaim in 1990 with a new arrangement of Prince’s song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.
