The theme song to the new Power Rangers movie is WAY better than it has any right to be

Rory Cashin

There was a time in the 90s when “bad” blockbuster movies were gifted “amazing” theme songs.

We’re thinking of the likes of Batman Forever, which critics absolutely hated (but we kind of look back on fondly now), but nobody could hate Seal’s “Kiss From A Rose” or U2’s “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me”, because they are both fundamentally amazing.

Similarly, the 1998 version of Godzilla arrived to cinemas with some terrible reviews, but it also gave us Jamiroquai’s “Deeper Underground” and Puff Daddy’s “Come With Me”, so how mad could we really get?

The reason we bring this us is because the latest reboot of Power Rangers has just arrived in cinemas, and again, critics aren’t being overly kind – its currently sitting at 45% on Rotten Tomatoes.

BUT! This theme song is FIRE!

Performed by legitimately great hip-hop artists Vince Staples and Santigold, “Give It All” works from a sample of the classic tune “I Got The Power” by SNAP!, and is produced by With You., a production group who used to be a part of Major Lazer.

Does this mean that we’re getting back into the age of tremendous theme-songs to terrible movies? Because if so, we’re totally down with that.
