These are the ten most popular ‘90s songs on Spotify

Conor Heneghan

Number one finished wayyyy ahead of the rest of the pack.

The 1990s may have been the decade that spawned musical acts such as Whigfield and The Vengaboys, but looking back now, it wasn’t a bad decade for music at all.

That claim is backed up when you look at the most popular songs of the decade on Spotify, which were cobbled together by Matt Daniels, data scientist and editor of Polygrap, after he pored through data from the hugely popular music streaming site.

The songs on Daniels’ radar were limited to those that charted on the Billboard Top 100 list, but that’s still a pretty vast collection and, regardless of your own personal taste, it’s hard to dispute the popularity of all the songs that made the top ten.

We certainly can’t argue with number one, although how Hanson’s MMMBop didn’t get in there we’ll never know.
