VIDEO: Band change lyrics of song to attack David Cameron while performing in front of him live on BBC

This took a lot of balls to be fair.

Many of you reading are probably too young to have heard of Squeeze, a UK band that first made their way back in the late ’70s and have been recording on and off since.

They have recently released a new album titled From the Cradle to the Grave and they performed the title track from the album live on the Andrew Marr Show on BBC One earlier today.

Prime Minister David Cameron also happened to be a guest on the show and the band took the opportunity to let him know what they think of his policies, particularly those on social housing, with singer Glenn Tilbrook changing the lyrics of the song to attack those “hell-bent” on destroying the welfare state.

The original lyrics read: “They say time will wait for no man/they say time is on my side/I can never make my mind up/as it all goes whizzing by”.

With Cameron watching on, Tillbrook changed them to read: “I grew up in council houses/they’re part of what made Britain great/there are some here who are hell-bent/on the destruction of the welfare state”.

Cameron either didn’t notice or pretended not to, but it was some way to make a point.
