Video: Radiohead fans will enjoy rare footage of Thom Yorke’s playing High and Dry with his earlier band

'It's the best thing that you ever had'

‘It’s the best thing that you ever had’

If anyone ever asked me what Radiohead’s best album is then I’ll always answer with ‘The Bends’. I adore nearly all of their work but their second studio album is a masterpiece with so many incredible standout tracks. I even wrote about it here.

High and Dry is arguably the Oxford bands most ‘radio friendly’ song but Thom Yorke actually detests it, maybe because he has been playing that song longer than the other members of the band.

Some rare footage has emerged of Yorke singing about ‘drying up in conversation’ and ‘flying on your motorcycle’ with his first band, Headless Chickens.

This gig took place in the late ’80s at Exeter University’s Lemon Grove and it’s a must watch for fans of Radiohead i.e. everyone.

The composition and pacing of the tune is completely different to what was later recorded. Have a listen.
