VIDEO: Sisters from Meath absolutely nail this cover of The Dawning of the Day

Carl Kinsella

There’s no finer way to celebrate the centenary of 1916 than with music.

Sisters Amie and Deirdre Grendon recorded themselves performing the finest performance of The Dawning of the Day that we’ve ever heard, and we genuinely feel privileged to have heard it.

This poignant performance will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing to attention for the rest of the evening.

“We wanted to express our feelings of gratitude to the memories of everyone who took part in the 1916 Rising and this is an air that we’ve sung in different guises over the years.”

“We felt this version and its lyrics were very true to the spirit of the Rising and what we are commemorating this year. It was a pleasure to sing it together as sisters.”

Do yourself a favour and listen to the Meath girls absolutely nail it.

For the weekend that's in it…a little video Amie and I did today ☺
