WATCH: Davy Carton of the Saw Doctors takes singing lessons after having surgery on vocal cords

Conor Heneghan

“I have to say when I first met him he probably had the worst voice I’d heard.”

Those were the words of vocal coach Michel Durham, who has been providing singing lessons for one of Galway’s most famous sons, Davy Carton of the Saw Doctors, of late.

You may have heard that Davy recently had to have surgery on his vocal cords after what he thought was a routine trip to University Hospital Galway uncovered a more serious problem.

As a result, the band were forced to cancel a series of concerts (25 in total) in the UK and Ireland, affecting 30,000 fans who had purchased tickets.

As the video below from the Connacht Tribune illustrates, however, Davy is well on the road to recovery, having been receiving singing lessons from Galway-based, Canadian-born vocal coach Michel Durham, who runs Durham Voice Studio in Galway city.

Safe to say Michel wasn’t too impressed when Davy first stepped through her doors, but he’s certainly sounding pretty good now.

And in better news, as a result of Davy’s recovery, the band were able to reschedule a number of dates on the tour, including three-sold out gigs at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre, which will now take place on March 10, 11 and 15.

Best of luck with your continued recovery Davy.
