We’re shocked* to know that this is Ireland’s favourite Christmas song

Tony Cuddihy

*Not shocked at all.

Larry Gogan always plays the first Christmas song of the year on RTÉ Radio, and this year was no different.

Man of the people that he is, Larry asked the public to vote for their favourite seasonal song and the resounding popular choice was none other than…

Yep, The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s ‘Fairytale of New York’ took top honours and was the first Christmas song of the year played by the country’s best loved DJ.

Larry did reveal that Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ came in at a very close second.
