1,180 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed across Ireland

There are 362 people with the virus in hospital.

There have been 1,180 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Ireland on Sunday. The figures released from the Department of Health on Sunday did not contain information regarding deaths related to Covid-19. As of 8am on Sunday, 362 Covid-19 patients are hospitalised, of which 59 are in ICU. It comes as Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said on Saturday that Ireland is "all ok" for the next stage of reopening on Monday. In a Tweet, Varadkar stated that the Covid-19 vaccination of members of the public under the age of 35 is "really working now" and that Covid-19 cases have "plateaued" or are "falling". He added that the rise in patients in hospital and intensive care with the virus is "slowing", writing: "All ok for next stage of re-opening on Monday." Restrictions throughout the country are set to continue to ease over the coming weeks with the final set of restrictions to be lifted on 22 October. While mask-wearing and other public health measures will remain in place in certain sectors such as retail and on public transport, most other restrictions will have been eased by the end of October. The first set of restrictions being lifted are to be eased from Monday 6 September, meaning from tomorrow there will be more activities allowed to resume.
