68 further Covid-19 deaths confirmed, 556 new cases

The latest Covid figures have been released.

68 further Covid-19 deaths have been confirmed, as well as 556 new cases.

50 of these deaths occurred in February, 15 happened in January and two were in December. One remains under investigation.

The median age of those who died was 85 years and the age range was between 43-96 years.

There has now been a total of 3,752 Covid-related deaths in Ireland, while the number of people who have tested positive stands at 204,940.

163 of today’s cases are in Dublin, 45 are in Limerick, 38 are in Galway, 34 are in Cork and 29 in Waterford. The remainder were spread across all other counties, except for Leitrim.

As of this afternoon, 1,212 people with Covid are in hospitals across the country, with 176 of them in the ICU.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Department of Health in Northern Ireland reported that a further 275 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sadly, a further 10 deaths have also been reported up north(with four outside the reporting period).

Barbers and hairdressers in Ireland won’t open until “much later” than 5 March, it was announced earlier on Tuesday.
