Alcohol advertising, for example, will be banned near schools, playgrounds and public transport, on-pitch advertisements for alcohol products will be banned during games and a broadcasting watershed of 9pm will be introduced for alcohol-related advertisements.
The Public Health (Alcohol) Bill will also require advertisements for alcohol products to include warnings about the harmful effects of consuming alcohol in general and during pregnancy.
The bill will be notified to the EU for observations and will likely be the subject of opposition from the drinks industry and areas of the media reliant on the advertising of alcohol products.
Because of cumulative delays, the measures will not be introduced during the lifetime of the current government.
