A replica of the Repeal the 8th mural to appear in Dublin on Wednesday morning

The original mural was painted over at the Project Arts Centre in Temple Bar recently.

The ‘Repeal the 8th’ mural that first appeared at the Project Arts Centre in Dublin city centre will reappear at Blackhall Place on Wednesday morning.

Replicas of the Maser street art will be installed at The Irish Council for Civil Liberties, having been removed from the Project Arts Centre under planning regulations and following complaints from pro-life groups.

The red heart on a blue background has become a symbol for the pro-choice movement, states Mark Kelly, Executive Director of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties.

“I think what the artist was doing was reaching out to people with a very approachable image and actually you can see in the meantime it has caught on,” said Kelly.

“This art is now appearing on t-shirts, caps, donuts and all over the place. People have seized on it as being emblematic of a fresh approach to the question.”
