The man escaped custody earlier this evening.
A man who is being described as “violent and unpredictable” is on the run in Dublin this evening.
Lee McDonnell escaped from a prison van after a hospital visit when the van stopped for food at Macaris chipper in Inchicore in Dublin.
The incident happened on Tyrconnell Road and Gardai are now searching for the armed robber so they can return him to Portlaoise Prison where he was serving his sentence.

Reports in the Irish Mirror suggest that he managed to get out of the cuffs and forced his way out from the van when it stopped to get food at the chipper.
McDonnell, who is from Ballyfermot, has 74 previous convictions.
