Big news from the world of Irish radio this morning.

In a big coup for the station, comedian Al Porter has been revealed as the new host of Today FM’s lunchtime show.

The slot has been vacant ever since Dermot and Dave’s move to mid-morning was confirmed earlier this month following the controversial departure of Anton Savage late last year.

One of the most popular comedians in the country, Porter has radio experience having worked alongside Colm Hayes at 2FM and will soon host his own show on weekdays from 12-2.30pm.

This was the scene at Today FM HQ on Wednesday morning…

Commenting on his new role, Porter said: “Today is a huge day for me! I grew up listening to radio and anytime I’ve been into Today FM, whether it’s to talk to Ian, Matt or Dermot & Dave, who have been interviewing me since I was a kid, I’ve enjoyed each and every visit!

“I’ve come to realise that it’s such a personal and intimate thing to have a relationship with listeners and over the past 12 months I think people have gotten to know me better. I brought people into my home at the end of last year and now I am looking forward to being in THEIR homes every day, not as a comedian but as a friend.”
