The change is being made to “better reflect how people talk about periods”.
Aldi Ireland has announced an update to signage in stores nationwide from “Feminine Hygiene” to “Period Products”.
Items such as tampons, towels, and panty liners are being recategorised with the change.
The new signage will appear in all 150 of Aldi’s Irish stores in the near future.
The change is designed to “better reflect how people talk about periods”.
Aldi’s Click and Collect website has also been updated reflect the changes.
“We are pleased to have renamed the category both in-store and online to better reflect how shoppers feel about period products,” said John Curtin, ALDI’s Group Buying Director.
The supermarket recently announced the location of 41 new electric vehicle charging points, bringing the total number of points to 79.
The additional EV charging points are scheduled for installation in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Mayo, Meath, Louth and Wexford.
The charging points are currently free to use and are powered by 100% green electricity, as are all Aldi stores nationwide.
Aldi’s initiative aims to support the Government’s National EV Charging Infrastructure Strategy.
This prioritises the delivery of rapid charge points over the next five years to facilitate the Government’s target of having almost a million EVs on Irish roads by 2030.
“We want to help Aldi shoppers live more sustainable lives and are constantly looking at new, innovative ways to make it easier for them to shop with Aldi,” the supermarket chain’s Group Managing Director Niall O’Connor said in a statement.
“By increasing our EV charging offering across our store network, our aim is to support customers in making environmentally friendly choices so that together we can work towards a greener future.”
Aldi also recently launched its first reverse vending machine earlier in the year, where customers can recycle for monetary rewards.
