A man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with the death of a man in his 30s following a stabbing incident in Cork.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to a house at Hollyville in Cork around 4.30am where they found the 38-year-old man seriously injured, but still conscious.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he later was pronounced dead.
The man is believed to have been stabbed, with a post-mortem examination set to be carried out on his body in due course.
After beginning an investigation, Gardaí arrested a 55-year-old man for questioning.
He has since been detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and a family liaison officer has also been appointed.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
