Arrest warrant issued in UK for UCD professor Dolores Cahill

It comes as she has missed a number of court hearings.

A bench warrant has been issued in the UK for the arrest of UCD professor Dolores Cahill after she failed to show up to a number of court hearings.

The Covid-19 denier and anti-vaccine campaigner is facing charges related to an alleged illegal rally in Trafalgar Square in London on 19 September last year where more than 30 people gathered outdoors during the pandemic.

Another charge against Cahill is said to relate to the holding of a gathering of more than six people during England’s lockdown which prohibited groups from meeting at the time.

An arrest warrant has now been issued by Westminster Magistrates’ Court after Cahill failed to show up to a number of hearings in relation to the charges.

It’s understood Cahill gave her address as the Irish Freedom Party at Kandoy House in Fairview Strand, Dublin 2.

Cahill stepped down from her role as the party’s chairperson back in March following a speech she delivered at an anti-lockdown rally in Dublin on St Patrick’s Day, where she made unsubstantiated claims that making children wear face masks would “lower” their IQ due to a lack of oxygen.

Cahill is not lecturing in UCD’s School of Medicine. The University confirmed that she had taught a first-year medicine class, but was no longer teaching the class, or any modules during the current academic term.

However, she is still a member of the University’s faculty with UCD saying in a statement in March that Cahill’s views were “her own” and not reflective of the University’s beliefs.
